Nick Reiner has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the killing of his parents, acclaimed Hollywood actor and director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
According to The Guardian, the 32-year-old suspect is being held without bail and has been in custody since Sunday evening, several hours after his sister reportedly discovered the couple’s bodies at their home in Los Angeles, California.
Rob Reiner, aged 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead on Sunday afternoon, 14 December, with stab wounds, at their residence in the affluent Brentwood neighbourhood. Police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the killings as investigations continue.
Rob Reiner rose to international prominence in the 1970s through his Emmy Award-winning role as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the influential television sitcom All in the Family. He later established himself as one of Hollywood’s most respected directors, with a body of work that includes This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men.
Over a career spanning more than five decades, Reiner’s films achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim, shaping popular culture far beyond the United States and reaching audiences across Africa and the wider global South through cinema, television and home media.
Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner had been married since 1989 and were known for their involvement in philanthropy and advocacy, particularly around family welfare and social issues.
Nick Reiner is expected to appear in court in the coming days as legal proceedings unfold.
