Trace Africa rebrands to Trace Ngoma, set to amplify SA sounds on DStv

Trace, in partnership with Canal+ and MultiChoice, has confirmed the rebranding of Trace Africa to Trace Ngoma.

The refreshed channel will celebrate the rhythms, voices, and stories that define South Africa’s cultural identity by highlighting locally produced music across genres such as amapiano, Afro-pop, maskandi, hip-hop, gqom, lemkompo, and urban gospel.

MultiChoice CEO Willington Ngwepe said the rebrand reflects what audiences want to see on their screens. “Our customers want to see themselves reflected on screen, their music, their languages, their culture. Trace Ngoma brings that to life in a powerful way. The rebrand aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver meaningful local entertainment that celebrates who we are as South Africans,” he said.

The rebrand will officially take effect on 18 December on DStv Channel 326.

However, this development comes amid growing uncertainty on the DStv platform, following reports that up to 12 channels could be at risk of being removed as MultiChoice reviews its channel lineup. While no final decision has been confirmed, the possible loss has raised concerns among subscribers about reduced variety and content options.
