Ousmane Dembélé claims Ballon d’Or, beating out top contenders

Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé has been crowned the winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or, edging out Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal.

The 28-year-old received football’s most prestigious individual honour on Monday, 22 September.

For over a decade, the award had been dominated by legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Following the announcement, football clubs, iconic players, and fans worldwide flooded social media with congratulations for Dembélé’s milestone. Still, the decision has sparked debate, with some questioning whether he truly deserved the accolade.

Supersport reported that the former Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona forward, who was part of the France team that won the World Cup in 2018, scored 35 goals in all competitions as PSG claimed a French league and cup double, as well as winning the Champions League.
