The family of late South African former Deputy President David Mabuza is fighting over his R44.7 million pension payout.
Mabuza died at a hospital in Sandton, Johannesburg on 3 July, after experiencing respiratory problems.
The 64-year-old also served as the Deputy President of South Africa’s liberation party the African National Congress (ANC) from December 2017 to December 2022, and also served as a member of Parliament from 2018 until his resignation in 2023.
This week, reports emerged that Tamara Silinda, daughter of Mabuza, has filed an urgent application at the Mpumalanga High Court in Mbombela to stop financial services company Alexander Forbes from disbursing the full pension to his wife, Nonhlanhla Patience Mnisi.
In her court filing, Silinda also claims that her father was married to her mother, Emunah Silinda, through customary law. She asserts that she needs access to the pension funds to pay for school fees, a monthly allowance, and accommodation costs. The case is set to be heard in court on 30 September.
