The United States said Friday that Russia is waging war on the world’s food supply by laying mines in Black Sea shipping lanes. U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said “the United States has information that the Russian military may expand its targeting of Ukrainian grain facilities to include attacks against civilian shipping in the Black Sea.” Attacks in recent days have put Odesa in Russia’s crosshairs after Moscow abandoned a deal that allowed Ukraine to send grain through the key Black Sea port. Both Russia and Ukraine have announced they will treat ships traveling to each other’s Black Sea ports as potential military targets. The Kremlin has yet to comment on the U.S’s claims.
