Alexander Cummings says allegations brought on by Benoni Urey are “Baseless and Useless” and intended to distract

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Alternative National Congress (ANC) standard-bearer Alexander B. Cummings who in recent days has seen numerous political attacks from a political actor within the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) has described the writ of arrest issued against him as baseless and unfounded.

On Tuesday, Mr. Cummings secured a criminal appearance bond that guaranteed his release. During his release from the court, the confident opposition leader said, the ALP political leader Benoni Urey, (a former illegal gunrunner of the now-disgraced president Charles Taylor) made a big mistake to have gone after him and the CPP agenda of unity and purpose.

During his interview with reporters in Monrovia, Mr. Cummings extolled the judicial system for the level of efficiency displayed. He also expressed hopeful confidence that the legal system of Liberia, a country so badly in need of impartial ruling in such a case, will prevail.

“Let me say this, the judicial system works today and I am hoping that it will continue to work in the future. I want to appreciate all my supporters locally and Liberians at large for the prayers, support, and love they have shown me today. This is a clear demonstration of their unconditional love toward unity for Liberia, confidence, and trust in me.

Mr. Cummings appearance in Court on Tuesday came as a result of the Monrovia City Court, January 3, 2022, writ of arrest issued against him on the basis of a complaint filed before the court by Mr. Benoni Urey of the ALP, on allegation of forgery and criminal conspiracy.

Mr. Cummings has strongly and repeatedly dismissed this allegation both locally and internationally. He recently in an interview with the BBC said that at no time did he and others within the CPP conspire to alter the framework Documents.

Since the false allegation of Framework Document tempering was first reported, Mr. Cummings has maintained that Mr. Urey has a motivation to break up the Collaborating Political Parties. he has insisted that Mr. Urey’s plan will not work because Mr. Urey has no point and he will be defeated in accordance with the law.

The former Coca – Cola Executive also expressed disappointment over the alleged refusal of CPP chairman and UP standard-bearer Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai to speak on the current allegation and internal fight within the CPP, particularly between him and Urey.

“I am surprised that the chairman of the CPP, former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has continued to remain silent and failed to speak out on this allegation and fight that is in the CPP,” Mr. Cummings said.

“He continues to say nothing about this. We are not deterred because this fight is about changing Liberia and the system that has taken advantage of the Liberian people,” the ANC political leader indicated.

Reports within the Liberian media circle have informed that the Unity Party (UP) wants to stay out of the Cummings legal proceedings.

UP chairman Amin Modad was quoted as saying, that the move by Urey has the propensity of giving Mr. Cummings unnecessary publicity. Mr. Modad stated further that with criminal cases, it’s left with the government to pursue it or not and that if the government doesn’t go far with it, it will give Cummings the vindication.

Mr. Cummings said he believes that Mr. Urey is an alleged paid agent of the government of President George Weah and as a result now unveiling themselves in attacks against him because they now recognize him as a legitimate electoral threat to them in 2023.

“The Liberian people will still vote us because we are clean people with good integrity and record. However, what all they are saying, we will make sure we engage with our people,” he noted.
