Lagos to Mombasa: How Can African Countries Increase Migration Opportunities for Skilled Youth?

Africa’s youth population is growing rapidly and is expected to hit one billion this year. This population is increasingly skilled and educated, but unemployment is high—and most African countries are not on track to produce enough jobs.

As a result, the desire to emigrate is increasing. Migration can provide huge benefits in terms of financial and social remittances and technological and trade transfers. However, high-income countries currently provide very few work visas to Africans.

In this episode, Dawit Dame, Senior Manager at the Jobs Creation Commission in Ethiopia, and Edwin Righa, Program Coordinator for the Joint Labour Migration Programme at the International Organization for Migration, join Gyude Moore to discuss how African countries can prepare for and enhance labor migration abroad.
