Gabon’s President Ali Bongo Ondimba has said the country could join the Commonwealth during the upcoming summit in Kigali, Rwanda. President Bongo held talks with the Commonwealth’s Secretary General, Patricia Scotland and expressed Gabon’s intent to join the bloc.
The president tweeted in both French and English “A very warm and rich conversation with the Honourable Patricia Scotland, Commonwealth Secretary-General, on Gabon’s possible integration into the Commonwealth.” He added “This would be a historic milestone for Gabon! Ali Bongo, a fluent English speaker who spent some of his childhood in the United States, has never hidden his intention to lead Gabon into the Anglosphere, in order to realize modernization and make the French speaking country bilingual.
